Blakelaw Ward Community Partnership have been working to secure some additional funding to provide extra activities for children, young people and the community over the summer period.
Thanks to David Dockray Young People’s Fund, Give2 Newcastle Fund and Blakelaw and North Fenham Community Council we can share our fun packed summer programme.
Last Thursday evening saw three separate groups of young people present their activity ideas to a panel of facilitators from Keyfund. The groups have worked together over the past few weeks to plan, research and budget a trip/activity that they would like to attend.
All three groups were successful in gaining the funding they wanted and will attend their planned activity in the near future.
What is KEYFUND?
We motivate young people to prove they can think, plan, do and review a project that takes them through a journey of discovery and skills development. Our model is designed to bind our supporters and the wider community to be part of that journey. We do it with just enough structure and plenty of freedom for each young person to make their own choices. We aren’t constrained by who that young person is or what ideas they have as long as we can help them realise that they can be great.
If you know any young person aged 11+ who may be interested in planning their own project or activity encourage them to pop along to speak to one of the team on a Thursday evening between 5.30pm and 7pm.
Every Tuesday evening between 6pm and 8pm, young people from around the Blakelaw ward come together at The Blakelaw Centre to spend time with their peers in a safe and fun environment.
The sessions are becoming more popular with the young people.
Activities include DJ/MC, arts & crafts, team games, games console & pool table.
Staff and volunteers work with the young people to plan each session to ensure that they are want the young people want.
Issue based topics are also planned for each session
Fenham Community Tea will take place on Thursday 27 February, at Newcastle Badminton Centre, Bowness Drive, Fenham, NE5 2TA.
Food will be served from 5.30. At 6.15 you will be invited to take part in a discussion about how associations and organisations working in Fenham can best work together to face the challenges of the future.
We look forward to seeing you there
Have you noticed a trail of 5 strange posts appearing across Blakelaw Park? The Blakelaw Bunker Listening Posts are park of a sound walk that links the secret (shhhh…) underground bunker in Blakelaw with the bunker in Kenton. Using a nifty bit of technology the posts will tell the story of the life of the bunkers and people who worked in them.
Come to the launch on 8th August from 2pm at the Blakelaw Library and ending with a free community BBQ on Blakelaw Park at 3.30pm. Everyone is welcome.
Church Gardens of St James & St Bail’s Church
We are holding The Big Picnic in the Church Gardens of St James & St Basil’s Church on Sunday 21st July from 12 noon on wards. All local residents welcome: bring your own picnic and enjoy the gardens with music, free drinks, children’s entertainments and sale of local crafts.
Look forward to seeing you all there.
